Rider University invites applications for the position of External Affairs Coordinator within the Office of University Marketing & Communications.  Reporting to the Vice President of External Affairs, the External Affairs Coordinator is responsible for supporting and enhancing the University’s relationships with external stakeholders such as legislators, government agencies, University partners and community organizations, and assists with media relations, public relations and social media efforts as needed.

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, Marketing, or a related field is required.
• At least 1-2 years of professional experience in communications, external affairs, public relations, government relations, or a similar role is required.
• Proven ability to write high-quality press releases, proposals, and professional correspondence.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with social media platforms.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate meetings, manage databases, and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
• High level of professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive information.
• Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Satisfactory background and/or DMV checks required. 

• Knowledge of higher education or experience working in academic institutions.
• Experience in grant writing or preparing proposals for state and federal appropriations.
• Familiarity with media relations tools and/or experience in crisis communications.
