At the University of Notre Dame, our Total Rewards program is central to our mission of providing exceptional support and fostering the well-being of our faculty and staff, while creating a workplace that inspires excellence.
To that end, the University of Notre Dame is seeking an innovative and strategic leader to join our NDHR team as the Assistant Vice President (AVP), Total Rewards. This position is critical in shaping and executing the University’s total rewards strategy, encompassing compensation, benefits, and well-being programs for staff, faculty and retirees. Reporting to the Vice President for Human Resources, the AVP serves as a key member of the HR Leadership Team, providing strategic guidance and fostering collaboration across the HR organization and the broader campus community.
The AVP will oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive benefit programs, compensation philosophy and well-being initiatives. The University of Notre Dame is currently ranked in the top tier of Total Rewards programs compared with fellow AAU (Association of American Universities) members, and we’re motivated to hire a leader with a vision toward the future to continue positioning us well.
Key Responsibilities
- Total Rewards Strategy: Lead the design, evaluation, and implementation of compensation and benefit programs that enhance the employee value proposition and ensure compliance with ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and other regulations.
- Well-Being Leadership: Drive well-being initiatives, including population health strategies and wellness programming, in collaboration with the Wellness Center, campus partners, and the University Wellness Committee.
- Strategic Leadership and Development: Provide direction and coaching to the Total Rewards team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and professional growth.
- Financial Oversight: Manage budgets for benefits and compensation, including setting the university’s fringe rate for benefits. Conduct financial analyses to evaluate program performance and recommend improvements.
- Collaborative Engagement: Partner with university committees, leaders, and departments to align Total Rewards programs with institutional goals, including support for international programs and student insurance offerings.
