Job Summary

Responsible for providing student educational and career services, goal setting, program selection, and vocational choices in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.

 

Essential Functions

Assist students with academic and transfer advising, goal setting, career exploration, program selection, crisis intervention, vocational choices.

Assist in training Independent School District (ISD) Secondary Education Counselors working with Dual-Credit/Early College programs. Collaborate with ISD Secondary Education Counselors in advising and guiding students. Act as liaison with ISDs to provide information on programs, services, and registration to accomplish the mission and goals of both institutions (El Paso Community College (EPCC) and ISDs).

Assist in implementing the New Student Orientation.

Teach classes and seminars in the area of human development and academic success.

Participate in implementing a counseling program to assist students in resolving institutional conflicts such as class attendance, course withdrawal, academic progress, or other student-related matters.

Prepare and audit degree plans, transfer credit evaluations, and student petitions, to ensure EPCC graduation requirements.

Prepare routine correspondence and maintain student records required by the College.

Act as a liaison with faculty, departments, and local agencies to provide information on programs, services, and registration.

Assist in training staff and dual credit stakeholders.

Participate in all areas of divisional and departmental responsibility, such as proposing program projects and exhibiting leadership in their implementation. Participate on committees. Work with faculty to accomplish the goals of the department, discipline, and the College.

Assist with such activities as collection and interpretation of research as requested or required.

Contribute to the governance of the College through active service by participating in meetings and committees. Participate in faculty orientation sessions and professional development seminar activities.

Responsible for professional development, awareness, and growth.

Acknowledge and support the College's Mission and Objectives.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

1. Master's degree in Counseling or Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Counseling or Guidance.

NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.

2. Experience as a professional counselor.

3. Experience/ability to work as a counselor at the community college level.

4. Experience/ability to incorporate technology into the counseling environment.

Special Conditions:

1. This is a security-sensitive position as defined under the Texas Education Code, Section 51.215; the successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal background check, as permitted and/or required by applicable law, and in accordance with the College’s policies and procedures.

2. ANTICIPATED FACULTY OPENING.

3. Tenure track position; annual academic year employment contract leading toward tenure consideration during fifth year of employment.

4. Salary listed is for a nine (9) month assignment. Additional addendum days and summer assignment optional.

A letter of application, resume, letters of recommendation, and other supporting documents are optional but highly encouraged and may be submitted on-line with the application form or forwarded to the Human Resources Department at El Paso Community College, Employment Services, P.O. Box 20500, El Paso, TX 79998. Mailed documents must be received by the application deadline. Documents received after the application deadline will not be accepted.

Copies of transcripts must reflect completed coursework and conferred degrees. All academic coursework and degrees must be from an accredited college or university or be certified by an acceptable agency that the institution is recognized by the appropriate governmental agency in its home country (this is generally stated in the degree evaluation).

Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation (word for word) by a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework.

Applications containing foreign transcripts that are not accompanied with the above required documentation will not be considered.

Out-of-town candidates invited for an on-campus interview will be reimbursed for one-half of the transportation cost for travel performed within the United States. The College will arrange and pay for up to two nights lodging.
