Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Sergeant (Police Support Services) will aid the Police Department Command Staff in administrative support matters. This position will also include responsibility for law enforcement accreditation as well as ensuring compliance in key areas such as the CLERY Act, Violence Against Women Act, and other functions as designated by the Chief of Police. This job will also include responsibilities for the protection of life and property, preservation of the peace, furnishing various services to enhance and support efficient operations within the university community as well as assisting with Major Crimes investigations when designated by the Chief of Police. Supervision of department employees will occur as assigned by the Chief or designee.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: Minimum of four years law enforcement experience, three years of which, as a sworn EKU Police Officer.
Licensure & Certifications: - At least 21 years of age.
- Valid Driver's license.
- Citizen of the United States of America.
- Qualifies for acceptance for Kentucky Law Enforcement Council basic police training program and/or certification as a police officer under Kentucky Statues.
- Persons that qualify for police officer certification under Kentucky Statue and are graduates of the Police Basic Training program may be given preference.

Job Duties:
- 45% - Provide administrative support to Command Staff and ensure compliance with accreditation, CLERY Act, Violence Against Women Act, etc. - (Essential)
- 20% - Provides services for the prevention of illegal, unsafe or undesirable activity from occurring on University property or during University activities; - (Essential)
- 30% - Provides Enforcement of all University, City, State and Federal law as it applies to keeping order at the University; - (Essential)
- 5% - Other Duties within Divisional Responsibility; - (Essential)
