Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) and undergraduate Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP), the Counselor provides academic, career, and financial aid counseling to STEP/CSTEP students.

 

They assist in conducting the summer and academic year STEP components. They provide college readiness and career workshops introducing secondary school students to careers in STEM, health, and licensed fields at Rose Hill and Lincoln Center local schools. Additionally, they assist in conducting CSTEP alumni and peer mentoring components.

 

This position requires weekend hours.

 

Essential Functions         

  • Provides academic, career, and financial aid advising to pre-college STEP and undergraduate CSTEP students.
  • Assists in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the STEP Summer and Academic Year Program.
  • Assists in conducting and evaluating the CSTEP Alumni and Peer Mentoring Programs.
  • Assists in planning, developing, and implementing CSTEP program services, activities, and events.
  • Assists in compiling data for grant and university reports.

Management Responsibilities   

Guides work of other employees who perform essentially the same work and/or student workers. Organizes, sets priorities, schedules and reviews work, but is generally not responsible for final decisions in hiring, performance management or compensation.

           

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience         

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of one year of experience planning, organizing, and evaluating college readiness and academic enrichment programs.
  • Experience advising underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students in a university and secondary school setting.

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills       

  • Ability to work collaboratively with university faculty, school partners, and external partners.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Skilled in using MS Suite Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge and skills in various social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with student retention strategies.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience advising students pursuing careers in STEM, health, and licensed fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and evaluate academic enrichment activities and services.
  • Knowledge of application processes for NYC secondary schools, undergraduate, graduate, and professional school programs of study.
  • Knowledge of entry requirements for STEM, health, and licensed fields.
  • Bilingual: Spanish/English

 

Minimum Starting Salary: $55,000

 

Maximum Starting Salary: $62,000

 

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
