Job Description

Missouri Valley College has an opening for a dedicated and vigilant public safety and security officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors by patrolling the campus, reporting crime and enforcing college policies.

Responsibilities

-Secures premises by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment and inspecting buildings and access points

-Upholds Missouri Valley College’s standards and reputation by complying with legal requirements of the Clery Act

-Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the College’s Emergency Action Plan

-Enforces campus parking regulations

-Completes incident/accident reports for missing or stolen property and criminal activity; assures accurate reports, including detailed, complete observations and information

-Conducts surveillance

-Interviews witnesses and obtains signatures

-Supports the College mission and service excellence while serving as an ambassador

-Models, supports and holds others accountable to the College’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity and teamwork

-Accompanies visitors, students and employees on campus upon request

-Provides public assistance, including lockout services, first aid, vehicle jump‐starts and traffic direction

-Prevents loss and damage via consistent reporting of concerns

-Educates violators on proper policies and procedures

-Job may require other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

-An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

-High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred

-Valid driver’s license

-Acceptable criminal background check

-CPR and First Aid certifications must be obtained in a timely manner

-Security, military or law enforcement experience preferred

-Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures

-Ability to use good judgement, think critically and problem solve

-Ability to mediate, intervene and remain calm during emergencies, hostile situations and physical altercations

-Ability to work with large groups of students

-Effective communication skills

-Strong personal integrity

Physical Abilities

Must have ability to work effectively at a computer for up to eight hours daily; Ability to sit for extended periods of time; Ability to use a two-way radio; Ability to walk and stand for duration of shift; Ability to lift 25 pounds; Ability to report to work during emergencies, unless otherwise notified

Additional Information

As a pre-condition of employment, the applicant must be authorized to work in the United States. Employment at MVC is contingent upon satisfactory completion of background check. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. May require occasional overnight travel.
