Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Data Analyst designs, develops, and maintains data extracts, queries, reports, surveys, statistical models, and visualizations, using advanced analytical tools to inform decision making related to recruitment, admissions, scholarships, financial aid, enrollment, retention, and graduation. The position ensures accuracy and efficiency of output and makes recommendations consistent with findings, campus enrollment goals, and university policy. The incumbent is a vital member of the Office of Assessment & Technology’s (OAT’s) Data Team, and works collaboratively with the Technology Team and with all Enrollment Management partners and other campus constituents.

This position requires the incumbent to exercise analysis and independent judgment in working with campus partners to ensure that data methods are consistent with federal, State, and university regulations. Documentation and training materials must be delivered in a way that they will be clearly understood and interpreted by end users, even by those who might not be familiar with student information and data environments. This position serves as a functional expert and resource for enrollment management data, offering recommendations for appropriate research strategies that will produce information for use by campus planners and decision makers. The incumbent must be able to ask clarifying questions to determine the specifics of what is being asked and seek consultation when unique issues are presented; and, must be able to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders who rely on data analyses for decision support.

This position produces routine and ad hoc internal and external reports (including dashboards, benchmarks and comparisons related to quality and efficacy of the institution), and abides by strict adherence to compliances and the highest ethical standards in ensuring that the data is presented with integrity. The position requires the incumbent to be analytical and trustworthy with the data. Focus and thoroughness are essential, as well as being able to integrate analytical knowledge and apply it to a variety of settings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in an analytical field such as a social, computer, or information science is required.

Experience:
  • A minimum of two years of experience working with complex data sets, statistical and business intelligence tools, and research methodologies.
  • Experience developing data processing documentation and providing data use training.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Ability to demonstrate advanced knowledge and application of research methodologies using statistical and research-related software.
  • Strong problem-solving, verbal, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interpret and present data findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects within a fast-paced environment, including adapting to changing situations, demands, priorities, and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and also collaboratively within basic guidelines and parameters and with minimal supervision

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use one or more of the following statistical/analytical tools and information retrieval methods: SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Visual Analytics, Google Looker Studio, Salesforce, Denodo, Tableau, Qualtrics, Python and SQL Developer/SSMS/SSRS.
  • Prior experience in a college or university setting, particularly in Enrollment Management or Institutional Research.
  • Prior experience with State and federal reporting in higher education.
  • Experience integrating complex data and conducting analyses using various statistical and business intelligence tools to produce consumable analytical reports and visualizations.
  • Specific experience with SQL and relational databases strongly desired.

Additional Information:

Salary range of $80,000 – $90,000.
