Essential Job Duties

We are seeking highly motivated and independent post-doctoral candidates to investigate the immunoregulatory signaling mechanisms in myeloid cells during viral infections and tumor progression. Our lab at NCSU offers a remarkable training environment for post-doctoral candidates, including opportunities to build independent research projects, research proposal development and writing, mentor undergraduate/graduate students, and generous support and guidance to transition to the next career stage. Our lab’s main research focus is to understand molecular and cellular networks driving immune evasion during chronic viral infections and tumor progression and develop novel targeted immunotherapies to promote anti-viral and anti-tumor immunity.

  • We are looking for post-doctoral candidates who have recently graduated or have less than 3 years of post-doctoral experience with a strong background in either immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, epigenetics, medicinal chemistry, or relevant fields. Experience working with rodent models, flow cytometry, viruses, and mammalian cell culture is highly desired.
  • The candidate is expected to be highly motivated, self-driven, independent, and self-desired to make significant major contributions to the science.
  • Candidate should be willing to work collaboratively with lab members and colleagues and open to learning and exploring new areas of science, particularly protein engineering, novel drug delivery formulations and approaches, bioinformatics, metabolomics, and medicinal chemistry.
  • Candidate is expected perform experiments independently with minimal supervision involving, ocular infection, inflammation, innate/adaptive immunity, signal transduction, and animal (mouse model) handling.

The lab duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Generate and modify hypotheses based on extensive literature search and pilot experimental data. Carefully design and execute experiments to test hypotheses and troubleshoot assays or design alternate experiments if they fail.
  • Maintain accurate and complete experimental records in lab notebooks and electronic systems.
  • Assist the principal investigator in the preparation of research results for publication in scientific journals, funding applications, and presentations at scientific meetings.
  • Handle necessary administrative paperwork and other documentation needed for lab operation and research projects (IACUC, BUA, lab inspection, lab inventory, lab supplies ordering, etc.).
  • Maintain mouse colony, including breeding, weaning, and mouse genotyping.
  • Write abstracts and papers. Participate and present research findings in local, national, and international research meetings. Write research proposals for intramural and extramural post-doctoral funding.
  • Mentor and supervise undergraduate, graduate, DVM, and research assistants.
