Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the Senior Disclosure Specialist in the Conflict of Interest (COI) Office, the Disclosure Specialist oversees faculty disclosures and manages conflict of interest cases. This role includes preparing, reviewing, processing, and documenting cases, as well as assisting the COI Committee and supporting education and compliance initiatives.

Using UMD’s electronic disclosure system, the Disclosure Specialist aids researchers in the disclosure process and guides Management Plans (MPs) from disclosure to disposition. Additionally, the role contributes to post-approval monitoring for COI MPs.

Responsibilities include maintaining a working knowledge of federal COI policies, monitoring regulatory developments, and participating in the development of campus COI policies and procedures. The Disclosure Specialist will independently review and analyze disclosures, ensure completeness and compliance, and assist faculty with disclosures and policy inquiries.

The Disclosure Specialist also prepares materials for and attends monthly COI committee meetings, summarizes sensitive information, and finalizes meeting minutes. As a non-voting member of the COI Committee, the Disclosure Specialist collaborates with the Office of Research Administration, UM Ventures, and other compliance units, provides training on the COI disclosure system, conducts educational outreach, and drafts forms, policies, and procedures to streamline processes.

In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the Disclosure Specialist will perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University

Experience:

A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible related professional experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing conflicts of interest,and the ability to apply this knowledge in a professional setting
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, high level of organizational skills, and time management
  • Strong analytical abilities to review and assess disclosure forms, identify potential conflicts of interest, and ensure compliance
  • Ability to function both independently and work collaboratively with other compliance professionals, legal teams, and relevant departments to address and resolve conflict of interest issues as a member of a team.
  • Proficiency with Google and Microsoft Office Suite required.

Preferences:

  • Master’s or other advanced degree.
  • Experience with conflict of interest management.
  • Experience in higher education, university setting.
  • Previous research experience or experience in a research environment.
