Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Director for Administrative Services (DAS) is responsible for the day-to-day management of all aspects of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice (CCJS) in the College of Behavioral and Social Science (BSOS). This position provides high-level leadership and management of the financial, operational, and administrative activities to advance the departments mission.

The DAS is the department leader to the administrative staff and an advisor to faculty and the department Chair, as well as, acting as the Department’s representative on appropriate committees and work groups both internal and external to the University of Maryland. This position directs and oversees all finances (including state, federal, research and foundation) for the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Manages and oversees the administrative support functions. Provides confidential consultation to the Department Chair. Leads, supervise, review, and mentor administrative staff and manages human resource staffing needs.

Sponsored research: The Dean’s Office’s research team is responsible for leading proposal development and submission activities for the department’s faculty and graduate students. The DAS serves as the first reviewer and back-up approver on all proposals before submission, and is responsible for post-award activities including expense monitoring, financial reporting, and spending projections.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:
  • 10 years of experience holding progressively responsible professional management positions.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Master’s degree preferably in business administration, finance or related field.
  • 10 years experience in academic setting, particularly knowledgeable of UM business systems ARES, BPM, PHR, CONCUR, Workday, etc.
