Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Senior Academic Advisor will serve as an advisor to undergraduate students as part of the College of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences (CMNS) advising team and will provide leadership and monitoring of student academic success and degree completion in CMNS majors. Key roles include ruling on requests for exception to policy; review and notification of students on academic probation and dismissal; and coordination of the academic benchmark review process and programs for students academically at-risk in the College. These roles entail data collection, evaluation and data entry; coordination and communication with CMNS advising units and leaders; and overseeing communications to students who are in violation of course repeat, benchmark or LEP program requirements. The Senior academic advisor will serve as the technology liaison for the Office of Student Services and the primary liasion for CMNS in the major-specific development and implementation of the new Elevate student record system. Additional responsibilities include teaching the Introduction to the University course and participating in the degree clearance process.

Education:
  • Bachelors degree.

Experience:
  • 3-4 years of professional experience in a higher education setting.

  • Masters degree.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience as an undergraduate academic advisor working with diverse populations. Experience working with students experiencing academic difficulty.
  • Must possess strong problem-solving skills, organizational and technology skills; and will be expected to carry out policy decisions with fairness, equity, and respecting confidentiality.
  • Experience using and understanding technology and advising platforms is preferred.
