The mission of Campus Health is to provide appropriate, affordable, accessible and high-quality primary health care to eligible students, and provide a comprehensive disease-prevention and health education program in the NC State community. Services include, but are not limited to: Allergy Injections, Dental, Gynecology, HIV/STI Testing and Prevention, Laboratory, Nutrition Counseling, Occupational Medicine, Primary Care, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Specialty Clinics, and Travel Clinic.

Essential Job Duties

The Executive Director of Campus Health provides visionary and strategic leadership for the health of the NC State campus community. The Director is responsible for ensuring that Campus Health operates within University and state policies as well as state and federal regulations. The Director is responsible for all administrative and educational functions related to the delivery of health care and disease prevention programs and works in tandem with the Counseling Center Director to ensure coordination of health care with appropriate counseling services.The Executive Director reports to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and serves as a member of the Division of Academic and Student Affairs’ leadership team.

Areas of responsibility include:

  • Visionary Leadership (25%)
    • Provide strategic leadership to shape and enhance Campus Health services and programs, fostering student health, wellness, and success.
    • Champion innovative approaches to meet evolving student needs and industry best practices.
    • Administer an effective and efficient organization through systematic planning and assessment, including both annual and long-range strategies.
    • Manage a $13 million budget effectively to maximize resources and support strategic objectives.
  • Healthcare Provision (25%)
    • Direct the delivery of healthcare services and programs to the student body and campus community.
    • Ensure that facilities, infrastructure, and staffing align with national standards for excellence in student health services.
    • Develop and implement relevant policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of care and compliance with regulations.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends and adapt policies accordingly.
    • Compliance and Quality Assurance:
      • Ensure compliance with the UNC system-wide student hard waiver medical insurance requirement.
      • Maintain quality standards, including AAAHC accreditation, through regular program and service evaluations.
  • Personnel Management (20%)
    • Oversee hiring, training, supervision, evaluation, and continuing education of Campus Health staff.
    • Foster a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Advocacy and Representation (10%)
    • Act as a prominent ambassador for NC State Campus Health Services at local, state, and national levels.
    • Promote the institution’s commitment to health and well-being in various forums.
  • Information Management (10%)
    • Oversee an effective management information system, coordinating efforts with university partners and external service vendors.
    • Uphold the accuracy and integrity of health records, ensuring seamless coordination with other university systems.
  • Other Leadership Oversight (10%):
    • Facilities and Operations:
      • Supervise facility maintenance, renovation, and repairs, as well as major equipment purchases.
      • Ensure effective and safe building operations, including security and fire prevention.
    • Crisis Planning and Business Continuity
      • Develop comprehensive plans for potential crises, ensuring business continuity during building or system disruptions or pandemic events.
      • Lead proactive measures to mitigate risks and maintain a resilient health services operation.

Minimum Education and Experience

Successful candidates must possess an advanced degree in healthcare administration, public health, or a related field with demonstrated experience in primary health care leadership and administration, including the ability to motivate clinical and administrative staff and evaluate work performance.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of national trends and best practices in campus health
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct clinical and administrative operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; strong written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, form partnerships, and work effectively as a member of a goal-oriented team.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards, medical laws and medical ethics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical degree preferred as the advanced degree.  For candidates who hold a medical degree, the degree must be from an accredited school of medicine or osteopathy and show successful completion of board eligibility or certification in a primary care specialty preferably in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine.
