Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The University of Maryland’s division of University Relations is seeking a highly motivated, goal-oriented, energetic professional to serve as a Donor Experience Officer (DXO).

Reporting to the Director of Leadership Annual Giving, this position is key in helping donors align their passions with philanthropic priorities and opportunities across campus. As a digital-first fundraiser, the DXO will utilize modern marketing and video tools to express gratitude and ask for philanthropic support. The DXO must have the ability to use digital technologies in all aspects of the role; information, communication, and basic problem-solving skills, and be data-centric in their approach to achieving success. The Donor Experience Officer must be able to articulate the mission and goals of the University of Maryland while demonstrating enthusiasm and passion.

The DXO will have several duties including but not limited to:
  • Responsible for the cultivation of current donors and solicitation of renewed and upgraded gifts from the University’s alumni, friends, parents and constituents
  • Actively manage and develop a portfolio of 1,000 prospects
  • Meet and exceed a set number of metrics including but not limited to: visits, solicitations, dollars raised, and referrals to major gift portfolios
  • Provide proactive, concierge-like approach to advising donors on available resources and giving opportunities across the university
  • Collaborate with colleagues to help align donors’ philanthropic interests with various priorities across campus
  • Effectively execute 1:1 outreach campaigns using technology resources including a Customer Relationship Management (CRM system), social media platforms, and video conferencing software tools to engage, steward, and solicit donors in a personalized manner
  • Execute monthly and quarterly touchpoint cadences across the donor portfolio to ensure consistent and relevant communication.
  • Responsible for discovering new leadership annual giving and major gift prospects through qualification visits, solicits upgraded gifts, and generates new pledges annually
  • Make donor referrals to university-wide major gift officers, as appropriate
  • Provide timely post-visit follow-up, including tracking moves and solicitations, and sending personalized follow-ups to individual prospects
  • Builds the revenue pipeline for the University while providing opportunities and philanthropic advising to donors and alumni.
  • Attend university-wide events and University Relations related meetings

Education:
Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated success in the field of fundraising, annual giving, sales, marketing, or related areas. Relevant student employment and internship experience may be considered.
  • Self-motivated and have a passion for the University and its mission.
  • Can clearly demonstrate necessary soft skills, relationship-building skills and organizational skills.

We are hiring two Donor Experience Officers.

Salary Range is the low $60,000s to the low $70,000s.

This position allows for a combination of in-person and telework days as approved by the supervisor. Guidance regarding hybrid work is subject to change at any time to align with operational or business needs.

Physical Demands

This position will work on campus in an office environment, which requires the ability to operate standard equipment and keyboards. Must be able to meet with donors, including virtually, and travel for work-related events as needed. Occasional work conducted on evenings and/or weekends may be required.
