Job Description

La Casa de Amistad:
The mission of La Casa de Amistad (LCDA) is to empower the Latino/Hispanic community within Michiana by providing educational, cultural and advocacy services in a welcoming, bilingual environment.

Service Position Summary:
La Casa de Amistad’s Youth Program Summer AmeriCorps member will share responsibility for coordinating and supervising children and volunteers in our Summer Youth Programs. They will work in small groups with elementary, middle school and high school students and other volunteers. They will support the youth programs coordinators plan activities and put them into action. They will serve as leads with students and volunteers for groups activities and behind the scene work. As noted below, the position also entails a number of regular logistical responsibilities that must be performed reliably, consistently, and transparently. This is essential to running smoothly functioning programs.
Specific Responsibilities include:

· Advance the mission of LCDA and its youth programs.
Supervise and work directly with elementary camp, middle school camp and high school camp students during our summer enrichment programs; 3 weeks each camp. Camps run Monday through Friday noon to 6PM, AmeriCorp members will be expected to come earlier and help clean and set up after.
· Help support, plan and implement enrichment activities and field trips.
Encourage students to participate and give the best of themselves in all activities.
Help supervise students during programming, field trips and small groups and help manage conflict resolution and code of conduct.
Help manage questions and communications between volunteers and LCDA and parents and LCDA.
Keep track of student data, attendance, and records.
Assist with the maintenance and cultivation of the space dedicated to the program.
· Maintain professional and functional relationships with necessary LCDA staff and partners.
· Being flexible with job duties since they will be working in a small non-profit with many needs at different times.

AmeriCorps is a national service organization aimed at helping communities meet needs in areas including education by building the capacity of community organizations. These are service positions, rather than traditional “jobs”. Each member completes a required number of service hours, and will receive an education award on completion of those hours; this educaton award may be used for future education or student loans. Members also receive a monthly living allowance for the three months of the summer term, May-July.

There are both Quarter-Time and Minimum-Time summer AmeriCorps positions available at La Casa de Amistad .

A Quarter-Time AmeriCorps member must complete 450 hours of service by the end of the summer. The member will serve approximately 40 hours per week for the term of service. On completion of the 450 hours, the member will receive an education award.

Compensation for a Quarter-Time member is as follows:
Living Allowance: $1555 per month (May-July)
Education Award $1,824 on completion of 450 service hours.

A Minimum-Time AmeriCorps member must complete 300 hours of service by the end of the summer. The member will serve approximately 30 hours per week for the term of service. On completion of the 300 hours, the member will receive an education award.

Compensation for a Minimum-Time member is as follows:
Living Allowance: $1243 per month (May-July)
Education Award $1,1459 on completion of 300 service hours.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or a lawful permanent resident alien.

Must be 18 years old by 7/31/2024

Additional Qualifications include:

- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Interest in education, working with at-risk youth, and community development.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
- Computer skills including GoogleSuite and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work in a variety of settings.
- Sensitivity, compassion, and listening skills required to work with a diverse population
