The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) at Purdue University is searching for an Assistant or Associate Professor with expertise in adulthood and aging, broadly construed. We welcome applications from scholars with interests in developmental and/or family processes, programs that focus on (neuro) biological, psychological, social, and/or cultural influences, and research that is basic and/or applied. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to developmental changes and transitions across adulthood; family issues that pertain to adults (e.g., grandparents raising grandchildren; relationship quality and maintenance in adulthood; transitions to empty nest, retirement; intergenerational relationships); and interventions to improve diverse aspects of quality of life in adulthood. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or comparable degree.

We are seeking a faculty member with a strong promising (Assistant) or established (Associate) program of published research capable of attracting external funding. The successful candidate will be expected to mentor graduate, undergraduate, and postdoctoral scholars in research. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses pertaining to development and/or family processes in adulthood, the successful candidate will be expected to teach courses based on department needs. The successful candidate will also engage in service on and beyond campus.

HDFS is located in the College of Health and Human Sciences, affording many opportunities to develop interdisciplinary collaborative research. Other research foci in the department include biological underpinnings of normative and non-normative development and health, family systems, advanced methodology, health & well-being, interpersonal relations, culture & diversity, and military families. HDFS faculty are involved in a wide range of cross-campus initiatives, including the Center for Aging and the Life Course, Advanced Methods at Purdue, and the Purdue Policy Research Institute. HDFS maintains spacious and well-equipped research facilities and centers, including the Military Family Research Institute, Cooperative Extension, and the Center for Families. Faculty also have access to extensive research and teaching resources, including Purdue’s Discovery Park , Purdue Institute for Integrative Neuroscience , Purdue Autism Research Center , MRI Facility , and Center for Instructional Excellence . HDFS also has a particularly strong relationship with the new Department of Public Health, where several faculty members are faculty associates with key roles in the Master’s and Ph.
