Position Summary

 

Livingstone College is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Psychology beginning the Spring 2024 semester to teach various courses in the traditional undergraduate programs in Psychology. Candidates will typically teach classes in General Psychology, History and Systems of Psychology, Research Methods,Counseling Theory, and other courses as assigned. A typical teaching load consists of 4 or 5 three-hour classes/semester. Job duties also include academic advising of students, active participation in college committees,working as a team member in the academic department or division the major resides in, working collaboratively with other faculty and the college administration, active involvement in recruiting activities for new students,and participation in and contribution to the general college community.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

• Administer in-person synchronous instruction utilizing various teaching strategies that will be inclusive for all learners; 

• Prepare course outlines and syllabi in accordance with program standards, and in collaboration with the program chairperson; 

• Utilizing effective teaching and learning practices such as presentations, demonstrations, class discussion, guest speakers, and other appropriate modes of educational delivery; 

• Use Blackboard as an instructional aide to teach, assess student performance, and post student grades; 

• Advise and register students, and track student progress and performance; • Use innovative teaching techniques and technology to enhance learning experiences; 

• Evaluate student progress, such as attendance and grades, in a timely manner; 

• Work collaboratively with campus-wide services on student retention; 

• Assist students with enrollment related challenges or issues; 

• Assess course outcomes; student satisfaction, student retention and use results to improve program quality; 

• Attend required meetings; 

• Collaborate with the campus community and serve on campus-wide committees; 

• Participate in professional organizations and provide community service; 

• Work flexible hours, evenings and weekends as needed for Institution events; 

• Perform other duties as assigned; 

• Advise and supervise field service; and other contractual duties as assigned;
• Grant writing

 

Education/ Experience

 

What you will need to be successful!

• Doctorate degree in Psychology;

• A minimum of three years successful teaching experience in higher education preferred; 

• Experience working with undeserved and underrepresented learners

 • Successful experience with traditional in-person classes, and hybrid/online instruction; 

• Experience teaching students with various learning disabilities;

 • Curriculum/program development; 

• Academic advising and degree auditing; 

• Other skills and abilities include strong written and oral communication skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom, and PowerPoint. Must be driven by the following values: Excellent Customer (Student) Service, Creativity, Quality, and Teamwork.
