Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Administrative support to the Research Development Office. This appointment is a 12-month, 20 hours per week graduate assistantship.

Duties include:
  • Create and track competitions for limited submissions and major opportunities.
  • Build overview documents for recurring solicitations (NSF MRI, NIH T32, USDA-NIFA SCRI, etc.)
  • Capture recurring calls and solicitations from major sponsors to coordinate and help plan for brown bag lunches and info sessions
  • Track major contract wins/losses, mergers/divestitures & opportunities with strategic corporate partners — and prepare regular digests
  • Collate, analyze and prepare presentations of cross-campus data on key partnerships
  • Prepare read-ahead dossiers on visiting VIPs
  • Monitor, extract, and disseminate relevant information from Manufacturing Institutes’ portals

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
This position is only open to students currently enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to gather and organize data and facilitate an open and honest work environment;
  • Excel VBA knowledge (macro creation);
  • Proficiency in Excel (graphs, pivots, linkages between tabs, macros);
  • Excellent communication skills including writing, editing, verbal;
  • Moderate to excellent mastery of Microsoft Office products including Word, and Outlook;
  • PowerPoint, and Access;
  • Ability to work with a wide diversity of stakeholders (internal and external);
  • Ability to work independently and creatively.

  • Web/HTML skills for basic updates to two websites;
  • Eligibility for 2+ years as a graduate student in the position is desirable, but not required.

Physical Demands

The candidate must be able to occasionally work evenings or during lunch meetings (ca. 12pm to 1pm) with adequate notice and be able to accomplish the physical demands of event and office duties which may include lifting 40 lbs.; setting up tables; etc.
