Essential Job Duties
This work involves troubleshooting electrical problems on plant equipment such as chillers, boilers, combustion turbines, fuel gas compressors, and auxiliary equipment. Additional duties include working with inspectors, contractors, and department liaisons as requested. Work is also performed on 4160volt starter breakers for chillers.
Other Responsibilities
- Hours are subject to change to meet the needs of the University.
- Must be able to work during adverse weather and other Energy Systems emergencies even if the University is closed.
- This position is subject to overtime as needed.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment of safety glasses, safety shoes, and ear plugs.
- Additional safety equipment to include respirator, welding leathers, welding shield, hardhat, and/or other gear related to the work site.
Minimum Experience/Education
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Other Required Qualifications
- Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
- Experience in the electrical trade.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the electrical trade in maintenance in utilities or academic facility.
- Preferred NC Electrical Contractor license.
- Understanding of and use of Lock Out Tag Out procedures.
- Knowledge in the use of Federal and North Carolina safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge in the use of OSHA policies and procedures.
Required License or Certification
- Valid driver’s license required.
- A valid North Carolina driver’s license must be obtained within 60 days of start date and must be maintained.
Valid NC Driver's License required
