We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and creative Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our Chemical Development department located in Ridgefield, CT. This position is part of the global Boehringer Ingelheim Post-Doctoral Program - https://careers.boehringer-ingelheim.com/post-doc/.

As a Post-Doctoral Fellow, you will be a primary driver of an innovative research project on the development and application of catalytic and non-catalytic approaches to design and execute innovative, effective, safe and scalable methodologies for the preparation of fluorine containing compounds of pharmaceutical interest. Strong organic synthesis is the foundation of this position along with skill to work in a multidisciplinary environment. Post-Doctoral Fellows are expected to independently conduct research and publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Take full responsibility for a research project, with guidance from experienced mentors with extensive background in academia and industry

  • Provide input to create, organize, and execute a research project in continuous hydrogenation chemistry

  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams

  • Publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present data at scientific conferences

  • Comply with all applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner and maintaining proper records in accordance with SOP’s and policies

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated creativity and initiative in driving cutting edge research

  • Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience in chemical engineering, organic synthesis, organometallics, or a related field; Catalysis is a plus.

  • Good knowledge of scientific area of responsibility; ability to ask critical scientific questions and critiques devised hypotheses



  • PhD degree or equivalent in Organic Chemistry, with good publications record

  • Demonstrated creativity and novel approaches to solving scientific problems

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

About Boehringer-Ingelheim’s Post-Doctoral Program:

  • The initial appointment is for 1 years contract with potential for an extension (1 to 2 years)

  • As a Post-Doctoral Fellow you will benefit from a fully resourced and fully funded research environment with access to a unique support system including state-of-the-art tools and equipment

  • Embedded in the BI Discovery Research organization, you will benefit from vibrant and regular scientific exchange within BI’s post doc community, including global BI post doc retreats, and with research scientists as well as with academic collaborators

  • At the end of the Post-Doctoral program you will have the opportunity to compete for a transition grant to facilitate starting up your next lab at an academic institution

Eligibility Requirements:




  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
