Minimum Training and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year higher education institution in one of the social sciences, statistics, business, public policy, management information systems or a related field.

  • At least two years’ experience with data modeling, data analytics or data science.

  • Experience with institutional research, data collection, analysis and design/visualization in a university setting preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of university operation desired.

  • Post-baccalaureate or master’s study in mathematical modeling, predictive analysis or data science preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously and with frequent interruptions.

  • Knowledge of data standards and management related to ERP systems.

  • Understanding of data extraction methods, software applications and business logic and a thorough understanding of data warehousing concepts/frameworks.

  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying a wide range of administrative policies and procedures.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the general public; and to work and contribute in a team-working environment.

  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal skills.

Major Duties

  • Works with leadership within Academic Affairs to deploy descriptive analysis and prescriptive and predictive modeling of academic

  • and support program effectiveness and improvements.

  • Coordinates and submits periodic and recurring reports to state and federal government agencies and other external and internal entities.

  • Uses a variety of data sources and tools, including Banner, SAS, SPSS, SQL, WebFocus, Tableau and MS Office Suite.

  • Works with all university divisions to continue development, deployment and support of university data management and

  • governance protocols related to data access, architecture, maintenance and oversight as needed or required.

  • Engages with data stewards across campus to contribute to the university’s current and future efforts at meta-data and master data management.

  • Engages Academic Affairs data stewards and business analysts in other units to define, develop and implement business processes to support The Winthrop Plan (strategic), student success and achievement, accreditation reviews and institutional effectiveness.
