Job Description

PROGRAM SPECIALIST, MIT-WELLESLEY UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM, Office of the Provost, to report to the Upward Bound Director and assume responsibility for advising and guiding the activities of the program and serve as a liaison between the program and the staff of the target schools and community partners.  Responsibilities will include recruiting participants to the program; assisting with the selection of program participants; conducting student interview, orientation, and training activities; conducting advising services/activities and maintaining appropriate case data; organizing college visits and career exploration workshops/visits; maintaining a network of ancillary support through interaction with personnel from the target school(s) and various community agencies; assisting with the selection and supervision of seasonal residential staff; assisting with the orientation and development of staff; and overseeing the planning and implementation of cultural/recreational workshops and field trips.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree, preferably in education or social science; at least two years of experience in youth services programming and/or in personal, academic, college admissions, financial aid, career advising, or residence life; and concern for and understanding of the educational needs/challenges of low-income, first-generation, disabled, and under-represented students and their families.  PREFERRED:  Familiarity with the human services delivery network of Cambridge.  Job #22767-6

Evening and weekend work and summer residence at Wellesley College is required.
