Job Description: A postdoctoral position is available to investigate the chemical kinetics of nitration. This work will employ transient state and steady state kinetic techniques to examine the mechanisms of enzyme catalyzed nitration of proteins. The focus of this research is to determine the mechanisms of natural decomposition of peroxynitrite and enzyme catalyzed decomposition as well as enzyme catalyzed nitration. The work will involve using rapid mixing kinetic approaches including fluorescence/absorbance stopped-flow and chemical quench-flow, and the high-level data analysis techniques required to analyze the results. In addition, there will be a need to overexpress proteins containing unnatural amino acids and isolate those proteins using standard methods including liquid chromatography techniques. Other techniques employed in the lab may become important including fluorescence titrations, isothermal titration calorimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, analytical ultracentrifugation.

Job Requirements: A Ph.D. is required in biochemistry, molecular biophysics, physics, chemistry or related discipline within the last five years. Experience or training with isolating and handling recombinant proteins from bacterial systems, preferred. Candidates must have demonstrated proficient performance in research and proven their ability to work independently and to use quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to capture and interpret data, give great care and attention to detail, report research results and to communicate their work effectively. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Qualified candidates should send their CV, including contact information for three references to This email address is being protected from spambots.
