The College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences at Clemson University invites applications for the position of Professor and Director of Simpson Research and Education Center (REC). As a land-grant university, Clemson is part of a national system created by the U.S. Congress to improve the quality of life for citizens in every state through teaching, research and Extension. The Clemson University Experiment Station programs develop and deliver scientific information in areas that align with the national land-grant university system and impact the life of every South Carolinian.

The Simpson REC, adjacent to the main campus of Clemson University, is one of six research and education centers located throughout the state. With approximately 4,500 acres, it encompasses animal and agronomic production research facilities: Dairy, Beef, Sheep, Swine, Poultry and Aquaculture Units; Simpson Station; Musser Fruit Research Center; Student Organic Farm; Calhoun Fields; and Cherry Farm.

The Director will be an innovative individual with strong leadership skills who is committed to establishing collaborative relationships, maintaining and advancing strong research programs, and engaging with external partners and stakeholders. This person will develop and implement a Strategic Plan for the REC; coordinate resource use with faculty, staff, and students; and serve as supervisor to the farm managers and support staff. The position reports to the Director of the Clemson University Experiment Station.

 

The successful candidate will have a PhD in animal science, agronomy, plant science, or a related field, and will possess the appropriate qualifications to obtain the rank of tenured, full professor within the university.

Other Preferred Qualifications Include:

  • Demonstrated administrative, interpersonal, communication, personnel management and consensus-building skills; Strong knowledge, insight, and appreciation of the mission of a land-grant university;

  • A clear commitment to undergraduate and graduate education with an emphasis on excellence in research;

  • Ability to connect with multiple constituencies and enable partnerships with government agencies, stakeholders and commodity groups;

  • Commitment and vision to align the REC strategic plan, goals and efforts with the goals and priorities of the College Strategic Plan and the ClemsonFORWARD Plan;

  • Ability to advocate for and connect the REC with areas of opportunity within the College and across the university .
