The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Navigation, Guidance, and Control Flight Systems Engineer.

Develop evaluation methodologies and software used to assess performance of current and future flight systems. Analyze measurement data and understand/develop the corresponding mathematical models for inertial measurement units (IMU), Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, and other sensor systems. Develop the mathematical algorithms necessary to evaluate guidance and navigation errors using Kalman Filtering and other similar techniques. Assess navigation, guidance, and control designs for future missiles and reentry vehicles.

  • Develop and use the mathematical models describing sensor data from inertial measurement units, GPS receivers, RADARS, and potentially other sensor systems. Develop and use the algorithms required to estimate guidance and navigation errors using Kalman Filters. (30%)
  • Conduct analysis for next-generation flight navigation, guidance, and control systems, including algorithm trade studies and performance prediction (20%)
  • Assess the performance of existing flight navigation, guidance, and control subsystems; develop, assess, and implement potential improvements to these algorithms (20%)
  • Develop and use software (primarily Matlab) to process data from IMUs, GPS receivers, and potentially other measurement systems. (20%)
