Description

The Hampton University Department of Physics invites nominations and applications for a postdoctoral associate position beginning October 15, 2017. Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton.  It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution. 

 

The Department of Physics offers Bachelor’s as well as Master’s and PhD degrees in Physics with emphasis on nuclear, optical, and medical physics.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

A postdoctoral associate position is to be filled in the Physics Department in the group of Dr. Michael Kohl. The main focus of the position will be on research and development of Gas Electron Multiplier Detectors, in the context of the the Muon Scattering Experiment (MUSE) at PSI to investigate the proton radius puzzle, and of the DarkLight experiment at Jefferson Lab to search for a dark photon. The group is further involved in the TREK experiment at J-PARC, the OLYMPUS experiment at DESY, and in the form factor program at Jefferson Lab.

Qualifications

The candidate should have a PhD in nuclear or particle physics. Some prior experience in software and hardware would be desirable.
